ALEXANDER VON MELLENTHIN
Founded European/African corporate finance and investment company Melcofin & Co. (previously Mellenthin & Co.) in 1998 of which he is managing partner and Paarl Equity in 2005 – a private equity platform for wealthy families in German-speaking Europe.
Has over 30 years of Investment Banking experience in both Europe and Africa and has been advising different European and South African corporates, larger South African and European family investors (particularly French and German families) in Africa and in Europe.
Director of companies and involved with European and African associations as well as being a member of a German think-tank. Has built-up strong networks in different European and African markets as well as having built-up a strong understanding of their different cultures.
Further to having undertaken his banking studies in Germany and a 2 year management trainee programme at Commerzbank (Frankfurt), he subsequently worked as a manager at Standard Merchant Bank (Johannesburg) and was a senior Corporate Finance/banking member at S.G. Warburg & Co. (London). Prior to having set-up his own advisory and investment business, was also a board member of Yamaichi Europe (London). Is fluent in English, German and French.
Ian Buchel has re-joined Melcofin and is in charge of technology and TMT/IT sector covering South Africa and other selective African countries.
Ian has 20 years M&A, corporate finance experience and used to be part of Cazenove in Johannesburg and was a shareholder and advisor to African IT tower business Eaton Towers.
Ian is also an advisor to Corniche Growth Advisors and which in turn is a strategic partner to Melcofin.
After an earlier career as a global management consultant Mike Rosholt now has over 13 years in cross-border M&A, capital markets and corporate finance experience and has spent many years managing and originating deals across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on East African markets.
During this time he has gained specific competencies in the industrial, mining, managed-services, financial services, technology, agro-processing and property sectors.
Sebastian Wagner is a cooperation partner with Melcofin, with a particular expertise in the energy sector. Sebastian was an Investment Manager with ADC African Development Corp. (now part of Atlas Mara Group), where he helped streamlining the portfolio through the exit of non-core investments in Central Africa.
Most recently, he worked with Trafigura and affiliated firms in Oil Trading, managing operations and pursuing pre-financing opportunities across Africa.
