Based now in Johannesburg, Ian Buchel was born in South Africa but spent eight
years working and studying in the United Kingdom. He studied engineering
at University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and completed his
MBA at Cranfield in England. His financial services career commenced
at Citibank in London in 1994, joining Cazenove as an equity analyst,
both in the UK and South Africa. After a spell at Deloitte & Touche
Corporate Finance in Johannesburg, Ian co-founded Pleiad Capital, a corporate
finance boutique in Johannesburg which was acquired by MCC Global in
2005. He has advised large and small companies in various roles in mergers,
acquisitions, management buy-outs and black empowerment in the South
African context.
